Coming from a place where I have created many memories over the last thirty years it can be difficult to think that I have to 'start over'.  But as I type those words starting over can bring a new awe to your views on the world, people and life which helped me realize that though I will miss my friends and family deeply; it is only distance that separates us and love that will keep us together no matter how far apart we are.

As a small businesses owner the animosity can start to settle in as I am starting my business from the ground up again with having to network, find/create new relationships and in the mean time I am struggling with not being able to capture those special memories for families on a regular basis.  While I am working hard to find those people to create those cherished memories I am taking in the new land that surrounds me.  I will begin to explore the many historical sites throughout South Carolina to share these amazing places through my eyes in hopes to share my journey with everyone past, present and future.

I have now added a great place within my site called 'Historical Sites' {under the Art for Sale tab} that you will be able to visit and see the newest additions to my exploration journey. Below is just a sample of one of the gorgeous places that I have embraced.

All images found within my 'Art for Sale' are available for purchase on a wide variety of products such as: Canvas, Metal, Aluminum, Gifts, Prints, Greeting Cards and much more! If you need assistance creating your home decor please do not hesitate to Contact Me I am here to help you make your vision a dream come true.

The Relocation https://www.dawdyimagery.com/blog/2017/3/the-relocation The Relocation

I have been wrapped in the midst of moving from one state to another, with two adults, four furbabies, endless boxes and it has been a trying time.  Though it has been a roller coaster of emotions it has been an adventure that I wouldn't trade for the world. We could not have done this without the amazing support of both of our families.

Now that the dust has settled and I  have taken the time to embrace the change I am ready to dive into my passion once again. This will take some time and I appreciate all that have stuck with my travels and have shown great patience as well as understanding! I am excited to continue to share my journey through this great thing we call life.

With new surroundings comes new beauty and it will be great to share my experiences through my eyes! I hope you enjoy what is to come and maybe find one that speaks to you that you can hang or share with your loved ones!

Depression & Passion https://www.dawdyimagery.com/blog/2016/12/depression-passion Looking back on the years I have come a long way and have many things to be proud of ... My supportive husband, our four furbabies, the roof over our heads, the car we own, the photography business we have built, the college degree I have earned and so much more!

So why ... oh why ... do I not have a smile on my face every waking minute?  We have so many things that sadly people wish they had ...

Everyone I know sees a person with a positive attitude and willingness to help when ever possible.  What they don't see behind closed doors is I am an emotional zombie!  I revert inside myself instead of talking with the love of my life.  I stress and over think every situation causing myself to become more closed off and want to sleep the problems away.  This results in countless hours of unneeded sleep and missed moments with my husband.

I know many people will say 'Everyone does this' and you feel you can do this because behind closed doors you can be your true self.  What if I do not like my true self behind closed doors?  What is this switch that turns positive to a negative as soon as I walk through the metaphorical door?

I have tried medication ... it helped for about 2-3 months, but then my body became immune.  Most people would revisit the doctor and up their prescription or try another anti-depressant.  I did not want the medication in the first place, but I do not know how to control my emotions and it became a last resort as I didn't want to start losing those closest to me.

My anti-depressant days are over ...

I am relieved of this decision, but it scares me to my core as I do not want to push those I love away, as I did last time.

My solution this time around ...

Using my passion of photography and nature as my natural anti-depressant.  It will be a struggle as sometimes I do not realize how quickly I fall into my depressive state, but the first step is being able to acknowledge the problem.

I want to sincerely apologize to all those that I may hurt or ignore...

It is my time to focus on me and produce the feelings that match my blessed life ... it is my time to help myself ... it is time to know it is okay to say 'no'. I may come off as the 'mean' person from time-to-time, but this thought comes to those that are trying to take advantage of my kindness.

I am not changing as a person, but I am changing the energy that surrounds me and showing myself that I am just as important as those I have helped throughout the years.

My name is Kristin Dawdy and I struggle with depression ...

Change is Coming https://www.dawdyimagery.com/blog/2016/12/change-is-coming Change is Coming

Thank you for watching my name is Kristin with Dawdy Imagery + Design.  Today I want to talk a little bit about photography pricing and services as well as the reasons you see such a wide range of pricing no matter where you live.

First I want you to think about walking into an art gallery or a jewelry store.  Here you will find a wide range of pricing from hundreds of dollars to thousands of dollars and beyond.  People know the reasoning behind the pricing is because you are buying art and/or design.  I want you to keep this in mind when you are looking for a photographer.

We as photographers are not only artists/designers most of us are solo acts that have to juggle every aspect of running a small business from paperwork, advertising, marketing, consultations, equipment purchases as well as editing; just to name a few.

Now back to my previous example when you see a painting, ring, necklace, photo that truly speaks to you … we then look at the price and assess if we can live with ourselves if we spend this money.  I agree with this process (we all do it) but when searching for a photographer to capture your once in a lifetime memories; I also want you to realize that you get what you pay for.  I have been in the position where I couldn’t imagine paying hundreds upon thousands to a photographer, but these are the people that know how to get your memories exactly how you imagined them.

Lastly I want to cover a controversial issue between clients and photographers.  How many of you have booked a session that included the digital files from your photo shoot which you turn around and have printed at the nearest one-hour photo? Yes, we all have, I have done this in the past as well.  It has become a societal norm for the photography industry.  This is not how the platform should work and most photographers go under when selling their services in such a way. In the industry this is referred to as the Shoot & Burn model.

We as photographers are not only the one behind the camera and computer we specialize in finding the proper home décor, prints and providing professional, color matching printers throughout the industry.

Dawdy Imagery + Design will be revamping the way we help our clients cherish their special memories.  With every photo shoot booked I will have an in-person  reveal appointment that will be scheduled within the following weeks of our session together.  During the reveal we will be able to discuss your home décor design options, photo gifting for friends/family and much more.

I am excited for this change and I hope you are as well!  Feel free to reach out to me at any time with questions and/or concerns you may have!

Thank you again for watching I look forward to capturing your next memories!

Be the Change Project https://www.dawdyimagery.com/blog/2016/11/be-the-change-project As a society we have come to a tipping point ...

Everyone including our children, siblings, spouses see an unrealistic form of feminism.  We see countless advertisements, reality shows, magazines and more showing the 'ideal' woman.

Who decides what makes up an ideal woman?

My explanation of societies ideal woman is ... ready for it ... ARTIFICIAL.

There is not a single advertisement, magazine, reality show that doesn't use some sort of manipulation tool to show the smoothest skin, flatest stomach, glowing hair, wrinkle-less face, skinny thighs and more!

This subject sparked a fire within myself ...

I decided to reach out to numerous women who I have met and some I had not to assist me in showing the world the emotions that we feel when our society is so use to artificial ideals.  The response was amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better group of women that show the strength every women can learn to have.

We dwell on the negatives ...

We learn this at a young age from media, family and even friends.

Why can't you be more like this? How come you are so short/tall? Why do you eat so much? What are you wearing?

I want these questions to stop! I want you to help me stand up and show those closest to you that people do not have to judge one another to 'fit in'.

Below is a courageous group of women showing us that we can stand up to what society is doing to us and our children.

Let's change the views of those that are looking to us for advise and how to live.

WE MUST BE THE CHANGE

Life Goes On https://www.dawdyimagery.com/blog/2016/11/life-goes-on We all have fought to become the people we are today ...

As I sit here I reflect on life struggles and how I have had the strength to move forward at times. Are you experiencing something in life that you cannot see through?  Does it seem as though there is no way around this obstacle? How many days have you felt this way?

As you are reading this seconds even minutes have passed ...

My point is that life goes on whether we can see the light at the end of the tunnel or not.

My 2016 has been filled with more losses than anyone would want to bare...

It started with my husband's Uncle who was an amazing soul that loved to be with family and share his love by getting those closest to him together as much as humanly possible. When together, he filled the room with amazing memories that these gatherings had created. Within the week of his passing I had found that my life was about to change as my husband and I would be expecting our first child.

A little back story of what a miracle this was; we had been trying for close to ten years with no luck and within the previous year we had been emotionally strong enough to accept that it was not in the cards for us.  We decided that in the future we may adopt, but conceiving our own was not in our path of life.

After the initial shock of the news of expecting we became ecstatic talking about our future, even started thinking of names.  We were able to share our exciting life change with our closest family and cherish the thought of how this will be a happy addition to all of our lives.

Within the next week my emotions were going crazy with new hormones, appetite and frequent visits to the bathroom. It all seemed euphoric...

... then the unthinkable happened.

I started to miscarry.

I have experienced loss and it is never easy, but this kind of loss was the most heart wrenching experience. Many people do not discuss what goes through your mind as you are comprehending the loss of someone growing inside you; it is taboo in our society. Every woman will have different emotions, but these emotions hit you like a cannonball.

The guilt, sadness, what if's were circling over and over in my mind. Was it something I did or didn't do ... Should I have taken more vitamins, did I drink to much caffeine, was playing with my dogs a bad idea, was I eating wrong, was it caused by that one fast food meal I ate?  Yes I know; these are all ridiculous questions to think about, but this was the process of grieving for me.

The next few weeks was about trying to keep myself together between the comfort food, sleeping, sitting in silence and holding my emotions inside.  I have to take a moment to truly thank my husband and being strong as well as understanding my process through this ... it was hard for him to see me go through the physical and emotional effects of our loss.

It seemed like there was no way out of my depression from this experience ...

Though our world came crashing down ... the seconds, minutes, hours, days continued to pass us by.

Time still went on ... life was still being lived.

No matter your struggle, feelings, emotions ... life still goes on.  Take the time to grieve, cry, sleep ... it is okay.  It is your bodies way of helping your brain understand your hurdle, but after all of that make sure you keep one foot in front of the other.

Take in all of the beauty and support around you during your hardest times. It will help you stay centered and build your strength to keep striving for your dreams.

Life is a beautiful struggle ... make the most out of every minute.

Your LifeYour Life"This is your life and it's ending one minute at a time.

Dreams Come True https://www.dawdyimagery.com/blog/2016/11/dreams

It can be trying at times when you are reaching for your dreams. My business is still a baby of 3 years with many more to come.  In life there are days when you want to give up and there are days that seem like a dream, but become reality.

Many of you may not know my struggles this year; there has been many losses that at times are hard to bare.  I am usually a very private person, but when you grow with a photography business you learn to open up and share your life with people (sometimes complete strangers). All of my clients have opened up to me to let me capture the most precious moments in their lives; so it only seems far that I give the same in return.

Though bitter sweet; with all my families losses this year it has taught me that life is too short to not do all the things you ever dreamed of in life.  This being said it is time for me to move on to my next adventure in life.  My family is moving from Michigan to South Carolina to create more memories with family members that have been afar for sometime.  This is a huge decision, but I feel it is where life is telling me to go.

I want to thank each and everyone of you for giving me the opportunity to become part of your families/memories.  I will be back occasionally, as I do have family here, so this is not the end.

Dreams can seem unreal, but they are only unreal until you make them reality.  Follow your heart and you will experience life to the fullest!

This is not goodbye but see you soon!

Love to you all,

Kristin

Stress is Good https://www.dawdyimagery.com/blog/2016/9/stress-is-good Stress is a huge thing for most of us … Whether you are a single mother/father, working a 9-to-5, running your own business or all of these combined.

As you know I have recently gone live with my new website!  I hope you are all enjoying thus far …

My photography keeps me busy on most days and who can ask for anything better than doing what you love? Running your own small business without any employees can be quite challenging, as I have come to realize, and surprisingly it is still amazing each and every day.

With any endeavour you are bound to hit some bumps in the road, but I take them as a learning tool.  Overcoming all of these ‘bumps’ has stacked up to become a mountain, and it is safe to say I have conquered it so far!

Here are some techniques that I have used to help me overcome my stressful days and climb to the top of each mountain that was put into  my path …

FIRST...

Close your eyes and take deep breaths in-and-out. Breath in through your nose and out through your mouth: This helps me re-focus and realize I can accomplish ANYTHING (one step at a time).

SECOND...

Stand-up walk around the house or around the yard. Fresh air and blood flow can change a persons mood almost instantaneously. I also add in my breathing technique as well.

LASTLY...

Take time for personal projects. This step is crucial to my sanity … I am a busy-bee and always have to be doing something! It has taken me years to understand that it is okay to take time for myself, whether it be projects, personal editing, family time or watching a television show.

Without this personal time and taking care of myself I would be of no use to my family, clients or business. Work will always be there tomorrow no matter how stressed you become.  So, take the time, make the time and watch what happens.
